Engraved cufflinks for a Vice President

Joe Biden Carlingford CentreJoe Biden Carlingford Centre

Engraved cufflinks have a rich history in commemorating notable events for distinguished gentlemen, and Engravers Guild was pleased to see the tradition continued in Ireland this week.

To welcome the US Vice President, Joe Biden, to Louth, he was presented with a pair of engraved sterling silver cufflinks.

The Argus reported that the engraved cufflinks were part of a gift set which also included a wooden replica of the Train Bull – a symbol of the area – to celebrate the award of the ‘Freedom of Louth’ to the American dignitary.

In recognition of the importance of personalised gifting, the Train Bull was carved from wood which was taken from the site of the Battle of the Boyne on the day of the battle in early July 1690.

Wood from the same tree was also used in the manufacture of the Freedom of Drogheda box for the current Irish President, Michael Huggins.

At Engravers Guild, we are committed to creating personalised gifts which mean more. Our unique online Preview Engraving Service allows you to build and give a bespoke gift, and also mark a special occasion – fit for a Vice President.

Happy Father’s Day

Engravers Guild wishes every dad a happy Father’s Day.

As John Updike, the Pulitzer Prize winning author, said, “You know how it is with fathers, you never escape the idea that maybe after all they’re right”.

So, the team here thought it appropriate on this day to celebrate perhaps one of the most famous pieces of paternal advice, that of Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling written in 1895 for his son – ‘If’.

Read the full poem here, but our favourite lines are:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same…

…Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son.

Wise words.

We hope all Fathers this year have received some special words from sons and daughters of their own. We’re pleased that many will be receiving a pair of engraved cufflinks, and know that those that are will be treasuring their personalised gift for many years to come.

Engraved gifts fit for Bond

As speculation rages about who will succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, we thought it would be a timely moment to pay homage to the style of MI6’s most famous recruit.

Every Bond would not be complete without his arsenal of gadgets, but there is one in particular which has always caught our eye here at Engravers Guild.

While every secret agent needs discretion, not even James Bond can resist carrying a personalised gift.

In the 1989 film Licence To Kill, Timothy Dalton receives a Dunhill lighter from his friend Felix Leiter and wife Della on their wedding day. Engraved on the lighter reads the message:

James,
Love Always
Della and Felix

Bond takes the engraved gift with him on his mission, and eventually uses it to avenge the death of Felix by igniting his killer, Sanchez, who is doused in petrol.

The actual lighter seen in the film was donated by Cubby Broccoli to the ‘Children In Need’ campaign. The final price of the lighter is not known, but two days after the start of the auction the bidding had risen to £3,000.

Of course, it was a beautiful lighter. But it was the story attached to the lighter that lived through the engraving which really created the value.

At Engravers Guild, we invite you to create your own stories with our engraved gifts. Engraved cufflinks for men, and engraved bracelets and engraved necklaces for women are the perfect gift for all occasions.

Engraved for Leicester City

Leicester city engraving

Engravers Guild congratulates Leicester City in pulling off one of the most incredible success stories in the history of sport, winning the Premier League.

Though the team secured the title last weekend, and the presentation ceremony will be this Saturday, we at Engravers Guild believe that the crowning moment really was when the club’s name was engraved on the trophy.

While memories may fade and news stories be forgotten, the indelible mark of Leicester City on the Premier League trophy will never lose its sheen and it will be a lasting record of the team’s incredible success.

That’s why Engravers Guild is dedicated to delivering engraved gifts. Whether they be engraved cufflinks, engraved bracelets or engraved perfumes, the lasting mark of an engraving can capture a moment forever.

Engraving the ‘word’ in ‘sword’

One of the pleasures of engraved cufflinks, engraved bracelets or engraved necklaces is that the inscription is often completely unbeknown to everyone but the wearer. It’s the individual and personal connection that makes it special.

At Engravers Guild, we have to appreciate the evidence of this sentiment in Batman Vs Superman, and the director’s commissioning of an engraving on Wonder Woman’s sword.

Although it would have gone completely unnoticed by the audience, the sword featured an engraving which was inspired by a phrase from the mythologist Joseph Campbell’s book Goddesses: Mystery of the Feminine Divine.

Moreover, to keep the authenticity of Wonder Woman’s heritage, an entirely unique language was developed just for the engraving.

At the despatch centre for Engravers Guild, we are often impressed by the originality some people bring to their engraved gifts, but first prize this week certainly goes to Mr Zack Snyder.

Obama comes bearing engraved gifts

Engravers Guild is all about giving gifts which mean more. Every Engravers Guild gift is personalised with an engraving.

And what better demonstration of the merits of our approach this week than the US President’s visit to Britain.

As reported on US News, Obama presented David Cameron with a collection of engraved gifts. These included a custom watch engraved on the back with the presidential seal and a bison leather duffel bag, monogrammed with the prime minister’s initials and featuring a luggage tag with the presidential seal.

The duffel bag had three cans of tennis balls from the U.S. Open and a pair of sport towels personalized with US-UK friendship flags.

Mr Obama, Engravers Guild gives you top marks for your personalised gifts. As you realise, an engraved gift can say far more about a relationship than an expensive present in itself ever could.

When David Cameron next visits Washington, we’ll send him with some personalised engraved cufflinks.

Happy Mother’s Day

Wishing every Mum a very Happy Mother’s Day.

It has been said that, “No gift to your mother can ever equal her gift to you… life”.

However, here at Engravers Guild of London, we try our very best to make sure that our personalised gifts do express the love and affection that sons and daughters have towards their mothers.

Our engraved braclets and engraved necklaces of sterling silver are designed to last a lifetime, and the bespoke inscription means that a part of the giver never need be far from their mother’s heart.

We hope all mothers are made to feel special this day. And also the other 364 days of the year!

The engraving maketh the Oscar

Engraved oscar leonardo dicaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio finally won the coveted prize for Best Actor at the Oscars this week. His acceptance speech has been watched by almost a billion people, but it was what happened afterwards that Engravers Guild was most interested.

The Governor’s Ball following the main event is where the real magic of the evening happens, as it’s here that the little gold statuettes get engraved.

Variety Magazine was there to capture the moment when Leo got his name engraved on the award. While he may be one of the best in the world at controlling his outward emotions, not even he could contain his excitement when seeing his name engraved on to the iconic prize.

At Engravers Guild, we know that it’s the personalisation that makes our gifts special. Whether it’s engraved cufflinks, engraved perfume, an engraved necklace or even an engraved Oscar, it’s the knowledge that the object is meant for one person and one person only that really makes the difference.

Getting engaged with something engraved

Dear Ladies

The time of Elizabeth Bennet – and having to wait for an eligible gentleman to get down on one knee – is now well behind us. Women are increasingly popping the question.

However, with 2016 being a leap year, the tradition of women taking the initiative on 29 February may spur a few more ladies to make an official start to those wedding plans.

But with one question comes another. What is to replace a diamond ring?

At Engravers Guild, we offer two pieces of advice: make it lasting, and make it personal.

Engraved wedding cufflinks are an obvious choice. Being something that the groom can wear on the wedding day, the inherent value of sterling silver provides the perfect stage for a bespoke message that captures the event.

Similarly, an engraved tie clip or an engraved money clip would carry the same effect – and both also be easy to conceal for the big surprise.

Of course, Engravers Guild can help with all of your props for the proposal. But we leave the rest for you. Good luck.

Engraved cufflinks fit for a King

Engraved cufflinks for Duke of Windsor

Engraved cufflinks have been the mark of distinguished gentlemen for centuries.

No more was this true than for the Duke of Windsor. Formerly King Edward VII, he embodied English style and was the most photographed man in the world for a time.

His sartorial sense defined the gentleman’s attire of the day, to the extent that even the way he tied his neckwear took on his name – the Windsor knot.

Another essential part of his wardrobe was his cufflinks. His cufflink collection was one of the greatest in the world. And prize amongst them were his engraved cufflinks.

He owned the most expensive set of cufflinks ever sold at auction. It was a set made by Cartier London that consisted of double sided cufflinks engraved with E & W.

On the back they were engraved Edward 23/6/35, and Wallis 19/6/35. Estimated to bring £70,000 – 90,000, the set sold for a record £115,250 in 1987.
